What is it doing?
A garage door announces its failures out loud. Find the noise, and you will usually find the part. Some of these you can settle yourself in a minute, and we have said so where it is true.
Likely cause
A torsion spring let go. People report it as a break-in or a car hitting the house. It is neither, and it is the single most common call we take.
What we measure
The gap in the coil, the cycle count on both springs, and whether the cables stayed in their drums.
What to do now
Do not try to lift it. That door now weighs what it actually weighs, which is upward of two hundred pounds.
Likely cause
Dry or worn rollers, tired hinges, or bearings at the end of the shaft giving up.

Every roller by hand, hinge play, and the bearing plates at both ends.
What to do now
Rollers are cheap and the noise is not the real cost. What is grinding is also wearing the track.
Likely cause
Loose hardware, a chain-drive opener bolted straight to the framing, or steel rollers doing what steel rollers do.

Torque on every bolt, opener mounting and isolation, roller type.
What to do now
Nylon rollers and isolated mounting fix most of this in one visit, for less than people expect.
Likely cause
Sections binding against each other, a bent track, or a hinge that has worn its holes oval.

Track alignment against the jamb, hinge condition, section fit through the curve.

The questions we actually get.
- My door will not open at all. What now?
- Do not force it, and do not pull the red release cord while the door is up — the door will come down under its own weight, which is considerable. Nine times out of ten this is a snapped spring. We carry springs for every common door, so it is usually one visit.
- Why replace both springs when only one broke?
- They were installed on the same day and have turned the same number of times. The one that survived is not healthy; it is simply next. Replacing it now costs a fraction of a second service call, and we will show you the wear on both.
- Can you match one damaged panel?
- Usually, if the door line is still made. If it is not, we will say so instead of ordering something close and hoping you do not notice. Then we price both honestly: closest match, or new door.
- How long does a new door take?
- A standard replacement is a morning. Custom sizes and full-view glass are ordered, which takes two to four weeks, and we will give you the real date rather than an optimistic one.
- Is an insulated door worth it in Arizona?
- If the garage is attached and shares a wall with a bedroom, yes — for the temperature and for the quiet. If it is detached and stores a lawnmower, it is a harder case to make, and we will make the honest one.
- Do you work on commercial doors?
- Rolling steel and sectional commercial doors, plus scheduled maintenance for shops that cannot afford a stuck bay on a Monday.
