White screen on GoDaddy

The universal blank page, with GoDaddy's fingerprints on it.

A white screen is PHP dying before it can draw — that part is universal, and our general white-screen guide covers the disease. On GoDaddy the investigation itself changes: the error logs live in their panels, their cache can keep serving the blank page after the site recovers, and their managed platform's own machinery joins the suspect list.

What’s actually happening

Diagnosing a white screen means reading the fatal error, and on GoDaddy that means knowing their geography. cPanel plans keep logs in the panel's Errors and Metrics sections (and a php_errorlog file scattered where the fault occurred); managed WordPress tucks logging behind its own interface, and WP_DEBUG output may need enabling through wp-config with their file manager, since SFTP details take a few clicks to find. The error text is the same as anywhere — the filing cabinet is theirs.

Two GoDaddy-specific twists earn this page its existence. First, the cache mask: their server-side cache can keep serving the white screen after the underlying fault is fixed — or serve working pages while the site is actually broken underneath — so every test must follow a panel-level cache flush, or you're diagnosing a photograph. Second, the platform's own machinery is a legitimate suspect: managed-WordPress auto-updates occasionally white-screen a site mid-flight, and their PHP retirements flip versions under aged plugins overnight. 'What did GoDaddy change last night?' is a first-class diagnostic question on this host, alongside the usual 'what did you install?'

The usual causes, ranked

After twenty-seven years of these calls, the odds are well mapped. Start at the top.

01

The standard fatal, filed in their cabinet

A plugin or theme fatal like anywhere else — but the log that names it lives in cPanel's error views or the managed panel, not where tutorials point.

02

Their auto-update landed badly

Platform-initiated core (and sometimes plugin) updates colliding with what's installed — the white screen that appears overnight with nobody touching the site.

03

A PHP retirement flipped the version

GoDaddy enforcing PHP end-of-life on schedule — old code meets new interpreter at 3 a.m., and the morning starts blank.

04

The cache serving a corpse

The fault already fixed — or transient — while the platform cache faithfully redistributes the blank page it captured. The twist that makes every other diagnosis unreliable.

What you can safely try first

Nothing below can make things worse — that’s the selection criterion. Anything riskier belongs in professional hands, on a backup.

  1. 1

    Flush their cache first, always

Panel → your site → Flush Cache. On this host it's step zero: it either fixes the 'white screen' outright (the corpse-serving case) or guarantees the next test shows live reality.

  2. 2

Find the error log in their geography

cPanel: Metrics → Errors, plus php_errorlog files. Managed WP: the site's settings/logs area. The fatal's file path names your culprit, same as anywhere.

  3. 3

Ask what changed on their side

Check email for GoDaddy PHP-retirement or auto-update notices around the timestamp. On this host, their calendar is as suspect as your plugin list.

Stop and call when…

  • The log names a fatal in code you depend on — reading it and repairing it are different trades
  • The white screen is intermittent — cache-vs-reality forensics need methodical hands
  • You can't find the logs at all — enabling logging safely through their file manager is precise work on a live site

From there it’s our job: same-day look, flat quote, and the $229 flat repair covers most cases of exactly this.

Single Error Fix — buy it now, skip the hunt.

One error, hunted down and fixed — 500s, white screens, redirect loops, broken pages.

Covers one specific error or broken behavior on one site. Diagnosis, the fix, and a plain-English note on what happened. If we can't fix it, you get a full refund.

Questions we hear a lot.

Why does my site come back and then white-screen again?

Two classic GoDaddy patterns: the cache alternating between a captured blank page and live content (flush, then judge), or a resource ceiling — the site dies under load, revives when traffic ebbs, and repeats. The log tells them apart: fatals point at code, an empty log during 'down' windows points at limits. Both are diagnosable; neither is fixable by refreshing hopefully.

GoDaddy support says the server is fine. Is the white screen my fault?

'The server is fine' means their hardware and platform are up — which is true and beside the point. A white screen is almost always an application-layer death: your site's code hitting a fatal, a limit, or a version change on their otherwise-fine server. That's exactly the layer their support scripts don't cover and flat-fee repair does.

What does the $229 fix cover on GoDaddy?

The full host-dialect diagnosis: cache flushed and ruled out, their logs located and read, the fatal traced to its file, the culprit repaired or replaced, PHP-version collisions resolved on a plan rather than in panic — and verification through a flushed cache so the fix you're shown is the site, not a photograph of it.

Blank to back, in their dialect. Same-day.
