Your catalog decides what store you need.

Someone hunting one exact part and someone planning a bathroom are different buyers. We build the store around how yours shop, on Shopify, WooCommerce or custom code. A store starts from $2,500.

Two buyers, two stores.

Rhinestone Supply sells thousands of stones that differ by shape, size, color and finish, to costume shops and designers who order in bulk and know what they want. Browsing is no use to them. So the work went into a product finder, and a cart and checkout set up for wholesale-size orders.

Mexican Tile Designs sells hand-painted tile, murals and sinks, and that catalog sells on browsing. The store is organized by tile type and also by the room a buyer is planning, with filters for color and style and a SKU on every product for whoever already knows. It runs on Shopify, and we've done Shopify development work on it.

Both are specialty stores and they want opposite things. So our first question about yours is what the buyer knows on arrival. The answer shapes the menus, the filters and the product data. If you're earlier than that, our page on store design covers what a catalog has to show.

Picking the platform, with your bills in mind.

We'd say Shopify suits a store whose catalog fits its model and whose owner wants hosting and security to be someone else's job. You pay monthly and live by its rules. WooCommerce suits an owner who wants to hold the keys and has someone to mind the updates. We see what happens when nobody does: broken checkouts, subscription trouble and the rest of our WooCommerce repair list.

Custom code makes sense when the catalog or the workflow has outgrown both, or when the store has to share a database with something else. Jin Shin Jyutsu Inc. runs class registration, a practitioner directory and a PayPal store against one MySQL database. That's closer to a web application with a cart in it.

A product grid is a lot of photographs.

We tested 47 retail businesses in our Phoenix-area sample, online stores and storefronts together. Their median main content took 7.5 seconds to appear on the homepage on a simulated phone, against 6.5 for the whole sample, with a median performance score of 63. The 14 Shopify sites had a median score of 57, too few to convict anybody, and a fair warning that a good platform doesn't protect a page from its images and add-ons. Our read is that photos and scripts do most of this damage, and that a shopper on a phone feels it before seeing a price.

So we size the images, cut scripts that don't pay their way, and test on a phone, because that's where we'd expect your buyer to be. If your store is slow today, start with a speed diagnosis. You may not need a new store.

Test the checkout like a customer with a deadline.

Before launch we run real transactions through it: wallets such as Apple Pay where the processor offers them, shipping rules, receipts and refunds. Tax settings go in as your accountant says, since sales tax is their call and not ours. An unglamorous morning of test orders beats finding a dead checkout from a customer's email, if the customer bothers to write.

Then a store needs people. SEO is the slow road, Google Ads the quick one, and email reaches the customers you already have. Conversion tracking helps you see which one earned the sale. Ongoing marketing starts from $575 a month, depending on complexity, setup and budget, with ad spend paid to the ad platform directly. We can't promise sales from any of it. We wrote about getting a product page ready for a rush if you have a season coming.

How it works

From the catalog to the first real order.

01

Read the catalog

We go through your products, variants, SKUs and shipping rules, and how buyers look for them. A flat quote and a platform recommendation come out of it.

02

Move or load the data

Products go in clean. If you have a store already, every product and category URL gets mapped to its new home with a permanent redirect.

03

Run real orders

Cards, wallets, shipping, receipts and refunds all get tried on a phone and a desktop. Then your staff work a few orders from the back end.

04

Open and watch

The store goes live with tracking in place, so you can see where buyers drop out. We watch the first orders with you.

Wow!

Casey rocked! The process was so easy, I told Casey what I wanted and he built it. My go-to with my online business, which has grown exponentially since working together.

Simply amazing!

They took our outdated website and transformed it into a modern, user-friendly platform that truly represents our brand.

eCommerce Development: questions we hear a lot.

How much does an online store cost?

An online store starts from $2,500. The size of the catalog, the platform, payment and shipping rules, and integrations such as inventory or accounting set the final price. A flat quote comes before the work. 0% financing with 25% down runs up to 12 months, and a financed project stays hosted on the DataCram platform for the length of the plan. Shopify stores can't be financed.

Should I use Shopify, WooCommerce or a custom build?

It depends on who's minding it and what the catalog does. Shopify if its model fits and you'd like hosting handled. WooCommerce if you want control and someone to keep it updated. Custom when the store has outgrown both. Our Shopify work and custom catalog are there to look at.

Can you move my store without losing sales or rankings?

Nobody can honestly promise that. We map every product and category URL with permanent redirects, carry over titles and descriptions, move product data and customer records where the platforms allow it, and test checkout before the switch. We'd expect some movement in search after any move, and SEO recovery exists for moves done badly.

Which payment processors can you set up?

Stripe and PayPal most often, plus whatever else your chosen platform supports. Wallets such as Apple Pay go in where the processor offers them. If a wallet button has quietly stopped working on your current store, see the WooCommerce Apple Pay fix.

My store is broken right now. Can you fix it first?

Yes, and that may be all you need. Start with WooCommerce store repair, missing order emails or Shopify customer login trouble. A rebuild can wait until the store is taking money again.

Is a store covered by your website packages?

No. The website packages are priced by page count, and online stores have their own starting price, from $2,500. If you're not sure which side of the line you're on, ask, and we'll tell you.

Tell us what you sell and how people look for it.

Send the catalog, or a link to the store you have. We'll recommend a platform and send a flat quote, and if a repair would do, you'll hear that first.
