Since October 1, 2026, the general combined sales tax rate inside the town limits is 8.95%. Just outside, it is still 6.7%. If your website takes payments, it has to know which applies.
Incorporation brought San Tan Valley a 2.25% town sales tax, effective October 1, 2026, on most retail, restaurant, and rental sales inside the limits. Added to the state and county rates, that makes 8.95% inside the town and 6.7% outside it. Construction contracting carries its own 5.00% town rate. The Arizona Department of Revenue collects the tax through the usual TPT returns, and it has told businesses that reprogramming their point-of-sale systems is their own job. Does the new town tax apply to our online sales?
It depends on where your business is and what you sell, and the Arizona Department of Revenue is the authority on that, not us and not the town. Get the answer from your accountant or ADOR, and we will make your checkout charge exactly what they tell you. What we can say is that a website is not exempt simply because it is a website.
Our point-of-sale provider says the tax update is on us. Can you handle the website side?
Yes. That is the common arrangement: the register company updates the register, if you ask, and the website is a separate system that needs its own change. We update the store settings, check every product category, place test orders, and confirm the receipts and order emails show the new line.
We're a contractor. Does the 5.00% construction rate change anything on our site?
Possibly. If your site has an instant-estimate calculator, takes deposits, or sends invoices, those numbers may need updating to reflect what your accountant says applies to your jobs inside the town. If the site only collects leads and you invoice elsewhere, the website itself may need nothing more than current wording.
