Working with Washington, DC businesses

In Washington, your website is read like a proposal.

Contracting officers, association boards, and general counsel are not browsing. They are evaluating — and a site that cannot survive a close read loses before the RFP does.

What makes Washington different.

Washington is the one American city where the biggest customer is the government itself. Federal agencies employed about 162,000 people inside the District at the end of 2024, and professional and business services — the contractors and consultants orbiting those agencies — form the largest private sector. Add the associations and advocacy groups along K Street, 177 foreign embassies, and the headquarters of the World Bank and IMF, and you get a market of institutional buyers who verify before they call. That changes what a website is for: past performance, capability statements, accessibility conformance, and plain-English descriptions of what you do carry more weight here than any hero image. On the consumer side, the Height Act keeps the skyline low and the neighborhoods dense, so restaurants, clinics, and trades compete block by block for residents who can walk to three alternatives.

What we see in this market

  • Federal contractors and consultants whose buyers check capability, past performance, and accessibility before anything else.
  • Associations, nonprofits, and advocacy groups with large content libraries and member logins.
  • Neighborhood restaurants, clinics, and trades competing for walkable, high-income rowhouse blocks.

Nationally, 83% of small businesses now have a website — which still leaves roughly one in six with none (Clutch small business survey, August 2025). No city-level figure exists; this is the national picture.

Did you know? Under the Height of Buildings Act of 1910, a building on a DC business street can rise only as high as the street is wide plus 20 feet, topping out at 130 feet — which is why the Capitol dome still owns the skyline.

The part we didn’t write

Clients say it better than we do.

What clients say — in their words

“Casey, the owner and developer, took the project and ran with it 100%. I gave him specific direction and he went well above the call of duty. Five star service all the way!”
“Wow! Casey rocked! The process was so easy, I told Casey what I wanted and he built it. My go-to with my online business, which has grown exponentially since working together.”
“First class all the way! From the prompt communication, being available seven days a week, to the nuts and bolts of getting our project completed on time and on budget — I highly recommend!”
“Simply amazing! They took our outdated website and transformed it into a modern, user-friendly platform that truly represents our brand.”
“They get it done. We had no idea where to start; they explained the build process and were patient with our many questions. All expectations and timelines were met. Double thumbs up!”
“Instrumental in driving our company growth through expert management of our Google and Microsoft Ads.”
“They helped us turn a loose idea into a working digital product — asked sharp questions, found the hidden workflow problems, and built a system our staff could use without a long training curve.”
“What stood out was the balance of design and operations. The site looked polished, but the real win was behind the scenes: better forms, cleaner handoffs, stronger tracking, fewer manual steps.”
“They made the technical side feel clear. We talked about goals first — then platforms, content, search, and automation.”

Questions we hear a lot.

We're a federal contractor. What belongs on our website?

Your capability statement in web form: core competencies, NAICS codes, certifications and set-aside status you actually hold, contract vehicles, and past performance you are allowed to name. Contracting staff research vendors before they reach out, and a page that answers those questions saves both sides a call.

Does our site need to meet accessibility standards?

If you sell to federal agencies, expect Section 508 to come up, and WCAG conformance is the practical yardstick. We build to WCAG by default; your counsel should confirm what your contracts require.

Our association site has a decade of content. Can it be moved without breaking everything?

Yes, with a redirect map built before anything moves. Old URLs are cited in reports, testimony, and member emails, so every one of them should land somewhere sensible on the new site.
