Website Maintenance & Support
Updates, backups, fixes, and a developer who answers the phone. The dull work that keeps a site earning.
Websites don't break all at once. They rot quietly, then fail on a Saturday.
Nobody calls about maintenance. They call about what skipped maintenance caused: "The site went white after the host updated something." "The contact form stopped sending, and we don't know when." "Google says the site isn't secure." "Our developer stopped answering, and nobody knows who has the logins."
Every one of those started months earlier as something small: an update skipped, a license lapsed, a renewal on an expired card. We wrote up the seven ways sites die and the annual bill nobody quotes you, and most of the cures are maintenance.
The real cost of skipping it is rarely the repair bill. It's the leads lost between when something broke and when somebody noticed. Small businesses seldom find out from a monitoring alert. They find out from a customer who says, "I tried your form last week, did you get it?" By then the form has been dead for a month, and nobody can count the customers who didn't mention it and called someone else.
What maintenance actually covers
Updates, applied and checked. The CMS, plugins, framework, and the server's PHP or Node version. PHP, for example, gives each version a limited window of security support, after which the host will eventually force an upgrade whether your site is ready or not. On WordPress, plugins are where the risk concentrates. Patchstack found about 93% of the WordPress security bugs it tracked in 2022 in plugins.
Backups that have actually been restored. A backup no one has ever tested is just a hope with a timestamp.
Monitoring for downtime, expiring SSL certificates, and the domain renewal, so you hear about problems from us and not from a customer.
Form testing. A form that silently stops delivering is, in our experience, the most expensive bug a small business site can have, because nothing looks wrong. We check that leads actually arrive.
Spam kept out of the inbox. Bot protection on forms, so the leads that arrive are people. A contact form flooded with junk trains the office to stop reading it, and then the real lead gets ignored with the rest.
Speed checks against Google's Core Web Vitals, because sites slow down as images and scripts pile up.
An access inventory. Where the domain is registered, where the site is hosted, who controls DNS, written down and in your name. Most real website emergencies are access problems in disguise.
How support works here
Every website package includes a year of support for the site we built. Support here means a person. Call (480) 525-7582 or email info@mesawebdesigners.com, and the developer who wrote the code is the one who answers. There's no ticket queue and no account manager relaying messages. When you call, it helps to have three things ready: what you saw, on which device, and roughly when it started. That turns most calls into a fix instead of a long investigation.
Sites built on a modern stack need less upkeep than a WordPress install with a dozen plugins, simply because there's less to update. That's a large part of why we build the way we do. Maintenance should be dull, and dull is the goal.
In practice, a month of maintenance looks like this. Updates are applied on a copy of the site first, then checked: pages load, forms send, the booking flow books. Only then do they go live. A backup is checked by actually restoring it somewhere harmless. The uptime log gets a look for any blips worth explaining. The renewal calendar for the domain, certificates, and licenses is checked against the cards on file. You get a short note saying what changed and anything you should know. Most months, the note is boring, and that's how it should be.
Inherited a site from a developer who vanished? We take on sites we didn't build, after an honest look first. Run it through the free website health check, then send us what it found. Sometimes the answer is a single repair, sometimes a cleanup, and occasionally a rebuild. You'll hear which one before you pay for anything.
Questions to ask anyone selling you maintenance
Whoever you hire, us or someone else, these questions sort the real service from the invoice:
What exactly happens each month? If the answer is "monitoring" and nothing more specific, you're paying for an automated email. How are updates tested before they reach the live site? "We click update and hope" is an answer, just not a good one. Where are the backups, and when was one last restored? Whose name are the domain, hosting, and DNS accounts in? It should be yours. What happens when something breaks at night or on a weekend, and who picks up? What isn't covered? A good provider answers that last one without squirming.
What it costs
For sites we build, the first year of support is already in the package price: $1,500 for up to 10 pages, $2,250 for 11 to 20, $3,750 for 21 to 50, and $5,750 for 51 to 70. When the year is up, we'll talk about what the site actually needs before anyone signs anything. If the honest answer is "very little," that's the answer you'll get.
For sites we didn't build, or when something has already broken, repairs are flat-priced, bought online, and fully refunded if we can't fix the problem: Error Fix $149, Theme, Builder or Plugin Conflict $199, Site Down $249, Malware Cleanup $349, and Speed Tune $399. See the whole repair menu or the pricing page.
Projects bought with 0% financing are hosted on the DataCram platform for the length of the plan.
Who it's not for
If you need an enterprise service agreement with a team on rotation around the clock, we're the wrong size, and we'd rather say so now than during an outage. This is one developer who answers the phone, not a network operations center.
If you're hoping for unlimited redesign work under the label "maintenance," we'll quote the redesign as what it is.
And if the site is so far gone that maintaining it means throwing good money after bad, we'll tell you. A redesign or a move off WordPress can cost less than another year of patches.
Sites we keep running
For Jin Shin Jyutsu Inc., we built and maintain the official platform end to end: worldwide class registration, a global practitioner directory, and a store on one MySQL database. Blue Water Shipping's operations platform serves a working ship agency every day, the kind of project where uptime is a business requirement and not a nice-to-have. And the San Antonio Protection rebuild shipped with strict security headers and structured data on every page, the kind of groundwork that keeps later maintenance light.

What clients say — in their words
“Casey, the owner and developer, took the project and ran with it 100%. I gave him specific direction and he went well above the call of duty. Five star service all the way!”
“Wow! Casey rocked! The process was so easy, I told Casey what I wanted and he built it. My go-to with my online business, which has grown exponentially since working together.”
“First class all the way! From the prompt communication, being available seven days a week, to the nuts and bolts of getting our project completed on time and on budget — I highly recommend!”
“Simply amazing! They took our outdated website and transformed it into a modern, user-friendly platform that truly represents our brand.”
“They get it done. We had no idea where to start; they explained the build process and were patient with our many questions. All expectations and timelines were met. Double thumbs up!”
“Instrumental in driving our company growth through expert management of our Google and Microsoft Ads.”
“They helped us turn a loose idea into a working digital product — asked sharp questions, found the hidden workflow problems, and built a system our staff could use without a long training curve.”
“What stood out was the balance of design and operations. The site looked polished, but the real win was behind the scenes: better forms, cleaner handoffs, stronger tracking, fewer manual steps.”
“They made the technical side feel clear. We talked about goals first — then platforms, content, search, and automation.”

Website Maintenance & Support: questions we hear a lot.
Is support included with a new website?
Yes. Every website package includes a year of support for the site we built. When something goes wrong, you call (480) 525-7582 or email info@mesawebdesigners.com, and the developer who wrote the code answers. There's no ticket queue and no account manager in between.
Can you maintain a site you didn't build?
Yes, after an honest look first. Run the site through the free website health check and send us the results. Sometimes it needs a single flat-priced repair, sometimes a cleanup, and occasionally a rebuild. You'll know which before you pay for anything.
What do repairs cost?
Repairs are flat-priced and bought online, with a full refund if we can't fix the problem: Error Fix $149, Theme, Builder or Plugin Conflict $199, Site Down $249, Malware Cleanup $349, and Speed Tune $399. You know the price before work begins.
What does website maintenance actually involve?
Updates applied on a copy of the site and checked before going live, backups that have actually been restored, monitoring for downtime and expiring certificates, tests that confirm your forms still deliver leads, speed checks, and a written record of who controls your domain, hosting, and DNS.
What happens when the included year of support ends?
We talk about what your site actually needs before anyone signs anything. Sites built on a modern stack often need very little, and if that's the honest answer, that's the one you'll get. Flat-priced repairs remain available anytime something breaks.
Keep the site dull, in the best way.
