Local Marketing · Seattle, WA

Seattle local marketing, now that advertising services carry sales tax.

Washington's 2025 tax law made advertising services, including ad design, placement, campaign planning and lead generation, subject to sales tax. Every campaign dollar should now be accounted for.

Under ESSB 5814, Washington began applying sales tax to advertising services on October 1, 2025. The Department of Revenue's list includes ad design, ad placement, campaign planning and lead generation. The department notes that litigation challenging the advertising provisions is ongoing, and says businesses must still collect in the meantime. For a Seattle company paying an agency or consultant to run its marketing, that means the management fee may now carry tax. Ask whether it applies to your arrangement, and have your accountant confirm.

Higher costs make measurement more important, not less. Call tracking that ties each call to the campaign that produced it. Form tracking that survives a site update. Monthly reports that show cost per lead by channel, so money moves toward what works and away from what does not. Our conversion tracking work exists for exactly this, and most businesses discover something surprising the first month.

Then the calendar. The Seattle International Film Festival arrives in May, Northwest Folklife fills Memorial Day weekend, Pride is in June, Seafair runs through July and August, and Bumbershoot takes Labor Day weekend at Seattle Center. Seahawks, Mariners, Kraken, Sounders, Storm and Reign home games move crowds all year. A complete Google Business Profile, reviews requested after every job and ads targeted by neighborhood carry the daily load. Local marketing starts from $575 a month, depending on complexity, with ad spend paid directly to the platform.
