Order emails not sending
The order went through. The silence afterward is costing you the customer.
A customer pays, hears nothing, and begins the doubting: Did it work? Is this a scam? Should I dispute it? Missing order emails don't just create support tickets — they create chargebacks and never-agains, all while the store hums along 'fine.'
Same-day diagnosis. Flat quote before any fix.
What’s actually happening
WooCommerce email failures split cleanly in two. Generation: the store never created the email — order-status logic misfiring, a plugin suppressing notifications, emails disabled in settings after some update. Delivery: the store sent it and the internet declined to deliver — unauthenticated mail from a web server being indistinguishable from spam, and treated accordingly by Gmail and friends.
Delivery is the usual villain — the same disease as any site email dying in transit, with commerce stakes attached. And WooCommerce adds its own subtlety: different emails (new order, processing, completed) fire on different triggers, so 'emails work' and 'customers get nothing' can be true simultaneously — the admin's new-order notices arrive locally while customer confirmations die crossing the internet.
The usual causes, ranked
After twenty-seven years of these calls, the odds are well mapped. Start at the top.
Unauthenticated delivery
No SPF/DKIM, sending via the server's default mail — confirmations dying in transit or landing in spam. The dominant cause.
Status logic not firing
Orders stuck in a status whose email never triggers — payment plugins that skip 'processing', custom statuses outside the mail map.
A plugin suppressing notifications
Email customizers, checkout plugins, or that one setting toggled during troubleshooting last spring — generation silently off.
The trigger emails split
Admin notices arriving, customer copies vanishing (or vice versa) — different addresses, different scrutiny, one confusing picture.
What you can safely try first
Nothing below can make things worse — that’s the selection criterion. Anything riskier belongs in professional hands, on a backup.
- 1
Place a test order to a Gmail you own
The complete test: does the confirmation arrive, where, how fast? Check spam thoroughly. One order, most of the diagnosis.
- 2
Check the order's notes in admin
WooCommerce logs email attempts on each order's notes. 'Email sent' with no arrival = delivery problem. No send logged = generation problem. The fork, documented.
- 3
Verify which status your orders land in
Orders parking in an unusual status (on-hold, a custom one) may simply never hit an email trigger. The status column tells you in one glance.
Stop and call when…
- Sends are logged but nothing arrives — authentication and a proper mail service need wiring
- Customers are already disputing charges over the silence — recovery messaging matters as much as the fix
- Both problems at once (some statuses don't fire AND delivery is shaky) — untangle in the right order
From there it’s our job: same-day look, flat quote, and the $389 flat repair covers most cases of exactly this.
Form & Email Rescue — buy it now, skip the hunt.
Contact forms delivering again, order and notification emails reaching inboxes.
Covers form and site-email failure on one site: broken submissions, vanishing notifications, spam-folder exile. Includes deliverability setup (SPF/DKIM) where the fix needs it.
Questions we hear a lot.
Admin emails arrive but customers get nothing. How?
Your admin address is often on the same server or a forgiving inbox, while customer mail crosses the open internet into Gmail's scrutiny — where unauthenticated store mail dies. Same emails, different gauntlets. Authentication plus a transactional mail service fixes the customer half.
What does the $389 fix include?
The full pipeline: generation verified across all order statuses, delivery moved to an authenticated service with SPF/DKIM set correctly, every WooCommerce email type test-fired to real inboxes, and the order-notes trail confirming it. Same price as any form-and-email rescue, commerce edition.
Can I resend confirmations to the customers who got silence?
Yes — WooCommerce can resend order emails per order, and once delivery is fixed those resends actually arrive. For the backlog, a short apology-plus-confirmation note does real chargeback prevention. We'll show you the resend flow as part of the fix.
